Nicki Parrott is a world-renowned double bassist and jazz vocalist. She came to New York in 1994 on an Australia Council grant to study with the bassist Rufus Reid. Since 2000, she played on Monday nights at the Iridium Jazz Club in New York with the legendary guitarist Les Paul, until his death in 2009. Nicki and her sister Lisa Parrott headlined at the Tribute to Mary Lou Williams festival at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC in May 2002, which was broadcast on National Public Radio. She was also resident bassist with the Kitchen House Blend which premieres and performs new music by New York composers. Since coming to New York Nicki has performed with many notable musicians, too many to list here. Born in Newcastle, Australia, she started her musical training on piano at four, and soon after took on the flute as well. She switched to the double bass at 15 because her saxophonist sister Lisa wanted a bassist for her group…
