NATIONAL JAZZ CO-ORDINATION NEWSLETTER
JazzChord was the newsletter of the National Jazz Co-ordination Program, issued by the Jazz Co-ordination Association of New South Wales between 1993 and 2002. This folder includes the 53 editions of JazzChord which were published, beginning with the final edition (No 64) and going in reverse order to the first edition (No 11) that was published in magazine form. The first ten editions (Nos 1-10), entitled National Jazz Co-ordination Newsletter were issued as Word documents in 1988 & 1989. They are included in this folder below. Photographs, which were not possible when these newsletters were issued, have been added.

Over the last few months I've realised that, despite the acknowledged successes of the jazz co-ordination programs in various States since 1983, very few people inside and outside the jazz world are clearly aware of those achievements. Perhaps this is because jazz co-ordinators, to be most effective, need to work with key figures in the jazz world, and their activities are often buried in various networks; frequently a jazz co-ordinator's role is unclear in a particular project and, once it's off and running, how quickly people forget!

I give you a hypothetical situation. An arts editor of a major quality newspaper decides that he/she does not have enough space to cover fully all art forms. So, he/she decides to sack the dance critic who has been writing for the paper for many years. He/she then announces that, in the future, the newspaper will run reviews only of major dance events - such as performances by the visiting overseas dance companies, such as the Bolshoi Ballet, or the New Harlem Dance Theatre, for example - and those reviews will be written, not by a qualified and experienced dance critic, but by the rock/pop music critic…
