NATIONAL JAZZ CO-ORDINATION NEWSLETTER

JazzChord was the newsletter of the National Jazz Co-ordination Program, issued by the Jazz Co-ordination Association of New South Wales between 1993 and 2002. This folder includes the 53 editions of JazzChord which were published, beginning with the final edition (No 64) and going in reverse order to the first edition (No 11) that was published in magazine form. The first ten editions (Nos 1-10), entitled National Jazz Co-ordination Newsletter were issued as Word documents in 1988 & 1989. They are included in this folder below. Photographs, which were not possible when these newsletters were issued, have been added.

The Wizards of Oz have completed a successful tour which included festivals in Canada and Europe, plus a week at Ronnie Scott's club in London. The quartet included Dale Barlow (saxophones and flute), Paul Grabowsky (piano), Lloyd Swanton (bass) and Tony Buck (drums). The Wizards' overseas tour, supported by a grant from the Australia Council, and administered by Musica Viva Australia, has been one of the most successful tours within living memory mounted by an Australian group…

Sadly, I record the death of Ricky May, who died suddenly of a massive heart attack at the Regent Hotel, Sydney, in the early hours of June 1, 1988, shortly after receiving a standing ovation from a capacity audience at the Don Burrows Supper Club. He was 44 years old. Ricky was a much-loved figure in the entertainment industry, and everyone will have his or her own favourite Ricky May story…
