OBITUARY: PAT QUA 1926–2018

The Qua family may not be a Sydney jazz institution, but it certainly seems like one. Patricia Qua (née Barraclough) was born in Sydney NSW on 26 January 1926 and grew up in a musical environment in Ormond Street, Ashfield. Her father Len played piano for silent movies, her mother Isabel was a violinist and pianist and both were members of a light classical string quartet. Pat's sons Chris and Willie Qua were founder members of the celebrated Galapagos Duck group in 1973 and are distinguished Australian jazz musicians...

Guitarist Chuck Morgan, who died on 23 August 2018, was a gentle man and an unassuming musician, widely known to Sydney jazz audiences from the late 1990s for his outstanding playing as a member of trombonist-vocalist Dan Barnett's jazz band, and from 2000 with his longtime partner singer/pianist Janet Seidel's touring and recording group up until her untimely death in August 2017…
